Noctilucent clouds are luminous, night-shining clouds that glow during deep twilight. This painting is part of a theme that I often revisit in my work, of the dance and interplay of light and dark in natural formations, be it the organic coalescence of clouds or water rippling on the surface of a river.
The atmosphere of dusk, the changing night sky, and the liminality of that time has a mood of the uncanny and mysterious, and offers us a chance to take in the sky for a moment, to pause and reflects as we navigate living in a time of transition with a growing awareness of increasing tensions and challenges around the world.
Clouds and the physical atmosphere around us, follow patterns in relationship to formations of the land, and show us not only of how we are all of the land, but also how interconnected we are as a planet, blanketed in clouds. Our physical atmosphere is a poignant reminder of our unification; humans, animals, ecosystems, all under the same sky, and how vital it is that we look after it, and make changes as individuals, communities and ultimately as a planet to preserve the beauty we have inherited.
