ABOUT SAVAAD:

Sculptor & Abstract Collage Artist | Timber & Found Objects | Yarra Valley Artist

Savaad Felich began his artistic journey in the late 1970s while working as a gardener at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. Surrounded by the remnants of cut wood and visiting students from the Victorian College of the Arts, he developed an early fascination with sculptural forms.

Over forty years, Savaad has honed a practice in timber sculpture, often repurposing discarded furniture and found objects to create semi-abstract figurative works that are elongated, balanced, whimsical, and sometimes brightly coloured. He also works in 2D abstract collage, producing giclée prints of his compositions.

Savaad has participated in multiple Yarra Valley Open Studios, public commissions, Artists in Schools residencies, and served as curator for notable arts programs including Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition & Awards. His Toolangi mudbrick studio, a large, playful space, is where he continues to experiment with both sculpture and abstract collage.
