ABOUT MIKE:

Originally from the UK, Mike Lutz has been based in Melbourne since 2006. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Visual Art from the Victorian College of the Arts and a Master of Fine Art from RMIT University.
Mike’s painting practice explores disrupted figuration, focusing on the emotional impact of painting on both artist and viewer. Embracing intuition and spontaneous mark-making, his work conveys moods of disquiet and psychological complexity.
Primarily working in oil, Mike balances the rational production of realist imagery with expressive, subconscious gestures. His painterly surfaces, tonal shifts, and considered scale create unsettling, ambiguous compositions that challenge perceptions and reveal the temporal qualities of paint.
