Evoking the soul and spirit of her chosen subjects

ABOUT MARY:

Observer of Light | Explorer of Colour | Storyteller in Paint and Print

Mary Anderson is a Yarra Valley-based artist who has exhibited in both solo and joint exhibitions. She works across watercolour, acrylics and oils, often incorporating layered textures and surface design techniques to evoke atmosphere and emotional tone. Influenced originally by the 19th Century Impressionists and more recently by abstract expressionism - capturing light, movement and mood rather than strict representation. Travel and workshops in Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland and more recently Canada, have further shaped her sensitivity to landscape and colour relationships. Recent works explore abstraction more deeply, inspired by the expressive energy of contemporary artists encountered abroad. Through intuitive colour and layered form, together with strong design formats, invite emotional response and reflection. In a world often marked by unrest, Mary seeks refuge in the joy of creation. Her diversity of paintings, offer viewers a moment of pause - an opportunity to step away from distraction and reconnect with beauty, curiosity and quiet delight.
