ABOUT KATHLEEN:

Nature Observer | Drawer of Light and Shadow | Weaver of Earth’s Palette

Kathleen Holton finds joy in the act of making — whether painting, drawing, weaving, or photographing. Her creative practice is deeply rooted in the natural world, inspired by the intricate forms, colours, and textures of the plants and animals that surround us.

Working with pencils, watercolours, acrylics, and more recently oils, Kathleen seeks to honour the delicate beauty of her subjects. From the fine lines of a leaf to the curves of an insect’s wing, her work invites viewers to slow down and look deeply. Drawing remains her first love — “the contrast of black and white, the inky blackness of the shadows… it speaks to the mystery, the dark places of the soul that do not wish to be seen.”

In recent years, Kathleen has embraced the meditative craft of coiling — a weaving technique perfected by First Nations peoples. Her baskets and earrings reflect the colours of Australia’s deserts, coastlines, and skies, bringing a tactile connection to Country and pattern-making.

Creating art for Kathleen is a way of paying homage to the wonders of the world, both seen and unseen.
