Adventurer Behind the Lens | Photographer & Storyteller of Nature, Sport, and Travel

For over three decades, John Norris has worked as a professional freelance photographer and writer, contributing to international magazines and shooting for major adventure sports and travel brands, many of whom he collaborated with regularly for 25 years. Alongside this, John spent two decades as a picture editor and staff photographer for a leading winter sports magazine.

Though much of his work captures the high mountains, John’s career has also allowed him to travel widely and create personal projects specifically for exhibitions across Europe. The pursuit of producing images worthy of exhibition as framed prints is a driving passion in his practice. He is deeply fascinated by photography as an art form—exploring the discovery of subjects, mastering technique and equipment, and making careful editorial choices at every stage.

John embraces both the power of the single impactful image and the storytelling potential of series work, including a 30-print macro collection of alpine flowers shot in their natural habitat, intimate English garden florals captured during lockdown, evocative motorcyclist portraits, and contemplative tree studies.

Having recently relocated to Healesville, John eagerly looks forward to exploring his new surroundings and connecting with like-minded creatives in the Yarra Valley.
