Jo Stone has been involved in artistic pursuits throughout her life, creating across diverse media while raising a family and teaching in high schools in Victoria and community settings in Canberra.
She has received numerous awards, including Australian Metal Clay Artist of the Year (2007), Australian Silver Artist of the Year (2008), and Australian Wirework Artist of the Year (2008). In 2015, Jo represented Australia at the International Wicker and Weaving Festival Competition in Poland, collaborating with world-leading basketry artists. She was also an Artist in Residence for the Toolangi Sculpture Trail 20th Anniversary project in 2016.
Jo’s work is inspired by her fascination with the challenges and beauty of diverse materials and the natural environment surrounding her. Her techniques include hand and machine embroidery, felting fibres, basket making with natural materials, sculptural clay modelling, silver clay jewellery making, wire twisting for jewellery and sculpture, bead design, and stone polishing.
A regular contributor to leading jewellery and basketry magazines, Jo lives and works from her Stringybark Studio in Healesville, Yarra Valley.
