Cecilia Sharpley has spent recent years uncovering the secret colours hidden within various eucalyptus leaves. By cooking the leaves onto paper for several hours, she transfers their unique images and colours, creating one-of-a-kind prints. Each leaf can only be used once, with different eucalyptus species offering distinctive hues that Cecilia transforms into framed prints, lampshades, and book covers.
When not exploring the wonders of eucalypts, Cecilia crafts handmade artist books that showcase a wide range of printmaking techniques, incorporating her handmade papers and drawing on her previous life as a calligrapher. She has produced at least one limited edition book annually since 1998.
Her books provide a platform to explore diverse printmaking methods such as linoprint and letterpress, alongside backgrounds like pastepaper and marbling, and a variety of traditional and innovative bindings.
