Cloudy skies and the bush inspire, heal, connect.
ABOUT AMANDA:
Painter | Sky-Watcher | Storyteller in Light and Shadow
Amanda Ruck creates atmospheric acrylic landscapes that explore the emotional terrain of weather and place. Using clouds as a vehicle for emotion, her paintings evoke introspection and stillness. Often anchored by a sliver of land, a pathway or lone tree, Amanda’s work invites the viewer into a quiet narrative—an inner journey guided by moody skies and subtle light.
A graduate of the Canberra School of Art (1988), Amanda trained in printmaking and painting before relocating to Melbourne and, later, to Healesville in the Yarra Valley—a place whose sweeping skies and immersive bushland continue to shape her creative practice.
Since 2007, Amanda has focused on acrylic on canvas, painting what she describes as the “weather patterns of her heart.” Her landscapes are at once grounded and expansive, brooding and luminous - offering space for contemplation and emotional resonance.
Amanda’s poetic reflection, This Cathedral of Bush, mirrors the quiet reverence found in her paintings:
This Cathedral of Bush
The shuddering light through trees, noticed, gone. Light flickering like a candle flame, Potent and absorbing
Remarkable stillness. Swept away leaves, branches reaching, Vigorous and reverent, a church choir.
Invisible, the visible Face warm, then shadow. Midday stillness Poster blue sky multi generations surround, Iconic and attached to the earth.
Time travellers leave their homes for the natural architects, Nests and hollows. This Cathedral of Bush.
