ABOUT ALESH:

Painter | Animator | Storyteller

Based in the Dandenong Ranges, Alesh Macak is a multidisciplinary artist whose career spans painting, animation, video, and public sculpture. He trained in painting at the VCA and animation at RMIT, a path that led him into music video clips, live projection, documentary work and gallery shows, before he left the city four years ago and animation gave way to painting once more.

Alesh moves freely between video, music, drawing and paint, always circling back to books and nature for inspiration. Two projects anchor his current practice: a children's book, The Little House on the Hill, nearing completion, and a Corten steel public sculpture he completed for the centre of Mount Evelyn township. He also recently completed a mural collaboration with fellow artist Minela Krupic, painted through a Yarra Ranges Council grant as part of a Mount Evelyn Gardens and Arts Inc project the pair started two years ago.

Without a studio of his own yet, Alesh works small scale from an oversized dining table facing the treetops, letting the view shape what he makes.
