I have always been drawn to the Visual Arts as a means of communicating about and recording the world around me. One of my earliest memories is, as a four year old kinder girl, having the teacher and duty mother coming up to my easel and requesting me to paint various animals.
Throughout primary, secondary school and tertiary education it was simply the main area of study interest for me and something I did for my own enjoyment and also for that of my peers. Some cheeky portraits of teachers at secondary school were confiscated but later found to be adorning their office desks!
Nowadays having retired from teaching myself, painting and drawing are ever more part of me and what I am driven to create. Living in the spectacular Yarra Valley is such an ongoing source of inspiration. I experience a deep sense of peace when painting on site, with those mountains that have always been part of my life framing the beautiful valley before me. Painting on site is my preferred way of working, whatever the weather! To share my love of this landscape and my visual awareness of the ever-changing colours, light and atmosphere is very much what my paintings are about. Every painting further enriches and intensifies my understanding of this beloved Yarra Valley landscape.
I have always liked my artwork to be accessible and to visually share what I find beautiful and moving through my work. However at the same time I hope to enrich the viewers visual understanding of what I have painted or drawn whether it is the quintessential Yarra Valley mist, the subtle colour within shadows in a landscape or the magnificent movement of a dressage horse.
I have been lucky (since retiring from teaching) to have been able to display my artwork on a permanent ongoing exhibition basis at a number of local restaurants/cafes. These personal exhibitions have generated sufficient sales and commissions for me not to have felt the need to exhibit more widely.
