B.A. (Fine Art)
Amanda grew up in Coldstream, in the Yarra Valley, with a passion for horses and art. Horses were in the blood, with her father a Polo Player and Master of the YG & Lilydale Hunt Club and her mother’s family bred and raced TB horses, along with Beef cattle farming.
Drawing horses started for Amanda in Grade 2 where her doodles were always of a horse head. From 1984 – 87 Amanda did a Bachelor of Arts (Fine art) at Chisholm Institute of Technology where she majored in Drawing and Printmaking. It was there Amanda studied Photo Realism and Life Drawing. Her folio and thesis were based on the horse.
Amanda uses different grades of pencil to create very detailed drawings, achieving the individual character of each of her subjects. Amanda likes photographing the subject herself so she can see the different characteristics and to get the best pose to display that individual animal.
Amanda has spent the last 30 years doing commissions of horses and dogs locally and internationally with work going to the US, England, New Zealand and South Africa.
A keen rider herself, Amanda is still riding and competing in a variety of disciplines such as dressage and eventing. She is enjoying training her young horse and breeding Clydie X horses. Her daughter Melanie, is also a keen rider, following in the family tradition.
